“Yet across the gulf of space, minds that are to our minds as ours are to those of the beasts that perish, intellects vast and cool and unsympathetic, regarded this earth with envious eyes, and slowly and surely drew their plans against us...”

 H. G. WELLS (1866-1946) was an English author, best known for his work in the science fiction genre. Prolific writer of such novels as The Time Machine, War of the Worlds, The Invisible Man, and The Island of Dr. Moreau, Wells gained worldwide fame for his remarkably prescient images, literary set-pieces that achieved a dark, apocalyptic beauty, such as predicting the advent of tanks, aerial bombing, gas warfare, nuclear war, laser weapons, and industrial robots. The granddaddy of all space alien invasion stories, The War of the Worlds was first serialized in 1897, then published as a novel in 1898.
